Winter's Eve 2024

Image
Music for a chilly winter's evening with 24 tracks spanning 47 years from 1976 to 2023, and touches every decade in between. This year's winter eve rock mix opens with a visit to a mountain cabin in the midst of a snowstorm, and kicks off with a new track by Judah & The Lion & Ruston Kelly as we listen by the fireside. In the past, the winter eve mix had only a slightly rougher edge than the brighter summer mixes. This year I decided to make the winter eve a true rock mix making it completely different than the summer mixes. Rock on and enjoy, and hopefully these rocking tracks make the winter a little warmer. Leave It Better Than You Found It - Judah & The Lion & Ruston Kelly (2023) Modern Girl - Bleachers (2023) Breath - Pearl Jam (1992) Hot Blood - Kaleo (2016) All Fired Up - Pat Benatar (1988) Rockin' At Midnight - The Honeydrippers (1984) Let's Get Drunk & Get It On - Old 97's (2014) Jungle Love - Steve Miller Band (1977) Don't Owe You...

Woodside Christmas V (2023)

Image
This year's festive Christmas mix features 26 tracks spanning 66 years from 1957 to 2023 and touches every decade in between. There are classics new and old, along with a couple non-traditional tunes, that I'm sure you know. Sounds of a snowy winter night and a crackling fire set the scene along with a distant church bell and the whistle of a passing train. Autumn Sunset III (2023)

Image
Autumn Sunset III (2023) is a collection of songs in celebration of love and remembrance... a heaping serving of aural "comfort food" as cooler weather arrives, leaves are falling, and amber skies drift into evening. The mix features 23 tracks spanning 84 years from 1939 to 2023. Halloween Mix 4 (2023)

Image
Halloween Mix 4 has some tricks & treats, and spans 64 years with 24 tracks from 1958 to 2022 and touches every decade in between. I wasn't sure if I had enough songs to put together another Halloween mix after last year's epic 30+ track mix that was almost 20 years in the making, but I actually still had a large pool of songs to consider. Dare I say, I think I have enough for another mix next year. We'll see, but looks promising. This year's mix also features many recent horror movie clips, and a couple classics thrown in for good measure. Hope you enjoy and Happy Halloween! Whistling Past the Graveyard - Holly Cole (2012) (Night Time Is) The Right Time - Ray Charles (1958) I'm Looking Through You - The Beatles (1965) It's Your Voodoo Working - Samantha Fish (2017) Midnight Confessions - The Grass Roots (1968) Feels Alright - Spoon (2022) Midnight Rider - The Allman Brothers Band (1971) One Of These Nights - The Eagles (1975) Spiders & Snakes - Jim St...

Summer Mix 2023

Image
This year's summer mix spans 64 years with 30 tracks from 1959 to 2023, and touches every decade in between. The mix opens with the tranquil sounds of a gentle stream and birds chirping on a summer's day, and closes with a nighttime melody of crickets and cicadas following the final track. No real plot or theme this year, even though a few tracks mention fruit/citrus, but these just add to the summer feel along with obvious gems like "sunburn" and "Saturday In the Park." The mix includes two quintessential live tracks from Journey, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary, "Feeling That Way" and "Anytime." These are followed by Dave Matthews Band's live version of "Crush" from their live release "Live Trax Vol. 13: Busch Stadium - St. Louis, MO - June 7, 2008." I was at this show this, hard to believe it's been 15 years since. Cheap Trick is also celebrating their 50th anniversary, and I included a rocking...

Winter's Eve 2023

Image
Music for a chilly winter's evening with 22 tracks spanning 69 years from 1953 to 2022, and touches every decade in between. This year's winter eve mix opens with a brief crackling fire sound effect into a cool-smooth track by Tom Misch from 2018, but a new discovery for me. Not sure what took so long. There are some new and old surprises in the mix.  I included "Junior's Farm" by Wings with its inclusion in the Natasha Lyonne series "Poker Face" on Peacock. There's also a nod to the movie "Groundhog Day" near the end with a Rachmaninoff intro to Joe Alterman's "Kelly's Blues" followed up by the film's closing song "Almost Like Being In Love" by Nat King Cole. It Runs Through Me (feat. De La Soul) - Tom Misch (2018) Change - The Revivalists (2018) Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones (1969) Hear My Dear - Tedeschi Trucks Band (2022) You Ain't Goin' Nowhere - Counting Crows (2012) in the wake of your l...

Christmas Mixes

Image
The first Christmas mix I created was over 20 years ago, and was a collection of classic holiday tunes that I've loved over the years. I initially got the idea of putting the songs together while selecting music to go with my family's old home movies that I had transferred to video. They were shot on 8mm with no sound and many of them were from various Christmases in the 1970s. It seemed natural to add some music to go with them. I actually thought I may not make another Christmas mix, because the first one contained what I felt were the ultimate Christmas songs. I arranged the songs from old to more recent, much the same way I placed the home movies on video. In 2004, I added a couple tracks, but the majority of the first mix remained the same. Later when I digitized some of my great grandfather's paintings, many of them winter scenes, it seemed like a perfect fit to use them as cover images and also honor the memory of my great grandfather. For each of the follow-up Woo...
