A Dog Day Evening

Happy Friday! Let me first say that the "dog" theme in tonight's post is purely coincidental, especially when you consider I picked up my beer selection yesterday - spooky. On tap this evening is BrewDog's Hardcore IPA . BrewDog is made in Scotland, but they take a "new world" approach to brewing and fully embrace the American-style IPA. Upon drinking you'd think this was an Imperial IPA from the states, but then you'd be wrong. I came home today and was greeted by a young pit bull in the back yard. She barked at first, but then was very friendly. I immediately checked around the neighborhood to see if anyone was missing a dog. No luck. I tied her up out back in the shade and gave her some water. Then I posted info and photos on Craigslist and Fidofinder, but nothing. I called the shelter and they sent an officer out who arrived around 9 p.m. to pick her up. He scanned her for a microchip, but unfortunately she didn't have one. She seemed like a ...

Grace Potter and the Big Eye

Friday - Howdy y'all! It's hot as blazes here and promises to be mid-90s throughout the weekend. Good thing I have an excellent ICB (ice-cold beer) to keep me cool. Ballast Point's - Big Eye IPA ! I was at the Flying Saucer last weekend for their 8th anniversary and was able to try some beers that aren't readily available on tap. One of them was Ballast Point's - Sculpin IPA . Wow, you would have thought there were fresh orange slices in this beer. Certain hops can give off a citrusy flavor, but I've never experienced a taste like this. I'm not one for fruity beers, but this tasted very good. A first for me due to the high heat and humidity, heading out early tomorrow morning to run in the park. I ran last Saturday about noon time and found it very tough going. I also gotta send thanks out to the LAN crew for turning me on to Grace Potter and The Nocturnals . In Remembrance of D-Day

We sometimes get caught up in our lives and forget to pay attention to the things that really matter. As Mr. Jefferson so profoundly put it... "We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." I was just reminded of the fact that today is the 66th anniversary of D-Day, and below is the FB post that reminded me. "66 years ago today five beaches were stormed. June 6, 1944: D-Day. Take a minute to remember, and think about just how different our life would be without all those who braved into the teeth of hell to ensure our liberties would endure." How right these words are, and how often do we take for granted that they did this little thing like save the world. We are forever in their debt. - Salud!

Florida, Fish Tacos and a Full Sail Brew

Howdy ho yo, Friday once again! Enjoying some Sierra Nevada Southern Hemi Harvest . No need to post a photo as I had this same ale a few weeks a ago . I got back from Florida this week. Had a good trip visiting my Mom and Walter, and even caught up with Aunt Susan and Uncle Ron. Was good to see everyone and spend some down time together. First night, we ate at The Ark , known for their huge buffet. Then stopped in the Hard Rock Casino for a walk around and a drink. Next evening we went out to Jimbo's Sandbar located on the intercoastal waterway for drinks and dinner. I ran earlier in the day and was starving. I immediately ordered their fish tacos. Wow, were they good. The fish was nice and slightly blackened. I would get them again. As it was still early, the fish tacos were really just an appetizer for me. After awhile we decided to have dinner just down the street at Le Tub , famous for their eclectic decor as well as their burgers. They were packed, so someone recommended we ...
