Winter's Eve 2017


This year's Winter's Eve Mix includes new and old favorites, and pairs well with a "cool" winter's night.

The opening track (Blue In Green) by the Bill Evans Trio, a cover of the Miles Davis classic, is rumored to have been written by Bill Evans, who played on the quintessential jazz masterpiece "Kind of Blue". Regardless of who penned it, I love this track and especially like this somewhat brighter version than the one Davis recorded. The next track (Wasting Time) by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats is one of my favorites right now, and I even have it near the beginning of my run playlist.

More notable tracks: (Delta Lady and Space Captain) honor the recent passing of Leon Russell, and a couple others (State of Love and Trust and Where The Streets Have No Name) commemorate their album's 25th and 30th anniversaries respectively. Other timely inclusions: (It Makes No Difference) prompted by the current tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of "The Last Waltz", and (Jimi Thing/What Will Become of Me) from the debut Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds release ("Live at Luther College" - January 1999) as they prep for this year's spring/summer tour.

The Long Road: A Music Lover's Concert History

UPDATED - Sept. 29, 2025 I've been doing some extensive research lately, compiling all the concerts and music artists I've seen since over my lifetime. Maybe a little nutty, but what a long, great trip it's been. So many amazing memories, I should really do some in-depth posts about the times and places, but for now just wanted to get the entire history together and sorted all in one place. I'm actually thinking of building a web app/site to do this that's better than what's out there, if even for myself. What's funny is the memories I've run across. I also found that social media is good for helping track down and determine certain event dates in my timeline, or to rule out a date because I was out of town or doing something else.
