Snow, Mojo and The Thirsty Beaver
Happy Friday!

Flakes are falling here this evening. They're calling for 1-3 inches overnight. Nothing compared to up north, but any amount of snowfall is big news in the south.
Tonight's brew a Boulder Beer Company's Mojo IPA, a previously featured beer from last summer, but I thought something from Colorado would be fitting as the Winter Olympics kick off this evening.
You may think I should have gone with a Canadian brew to go along with the current Olympic site, but nah I'm for the good ol' USA! Go Lindsey, Shaun and all the rest!
Last Saturday, I participated in the Plaza Midwood Bar Crawl that took me to one spot called the Thirsty Beaver Saloon. The Beaver is a self-dubbed "honky tonk," which apparently means they serve beer in cans only. Tallboy PBRs were a popular choice - I had a Yuengling. Other significant features of this definitive dive bar included a TV with Hee Haw reruns and a big buck-toothed beaver painted on the side of the building.

Other stops on the crawl in chronological order were Cafe Central, Snug Harbor, Common Market and Thomas St. Tavern.
Had dinner at Cafe Central and this was also my first chance to try Olde Mecklenburg's Amber on tap.
From what I gathered, some of the establishments weren't doing the best of business, and I'm sure they appreciated the neighborhood-sponsored crawl as a chance to bring in customers.
At Common Market I had my first ever Rogue John John Ale, a Dead Guy Ale aged in Dead Guy Whiskey Barrels. I've been reading this is the latest beer trend, but not my "cup of tea" as I've never been a whiskey guy.
Finished up the night with the always good Terrapin Rye Pale Ale by the fire at Thomas St. Tavern.
In Other (boring) News...
My washing machine has been acting up of late. I had a repairman take a look and replace a part, but still not working right. Basically, it gets to the spin cycle and stops due to an unbalanced load, but no matter how I re-arrange the clothes it won't finish the spin cycle. It's worked fine for the last 4-5 years, but all the sudden this problem popped up. I read online that this model has caused so many problems Maytag stop production after only a year. I decided it was time to move on and buy a new machine to be delivered in the next few days. You think in 2010 they would have perfected the washing machine!
