Memorial Day Weekend

Image
Sorry a little late in posting, but... Thank you to all those who came before us and granted the freedom we enjoy today, and thank you to those who serve proudly this very minute in all corners of the globe! I wanted to write a summation of the big weekend, but doubt I could do a better job than Ol' Lazy Acres already did on his blog. So rather than repeat, here's a link to his latest post . Had a great time and always enjoy spending time with Ol' Lazy Acres. The photo above is from lunch Sunday at Mac's Speed Shop . We some good Carolina BBQ (had the sampler with ribs, chicken, beef brisket, pulled pork and 2 sides), cold drinks (I had a the Rogue Dead Guy Ale and Ol' Lazy Acres had a Bloody Mary) and watched the start of the Indy race, which due to the weather was the only race going that day. That evening we had a fine Spanish wine Las Rocas Garnacha paired with a couple huge ribeye steaks and a screening of The Big Lebowski . Reminds me, there's a Lebowski...

Rainy Friday Night

Image
Evening all! Kicked the jukebox off with some Bob Marley "Lively Up Yourself" and had a Lagunitas Brewing Co. - IPA Maximus . Nice stuff and a double IPA! Storms blew in as soon as I got home today and continued up until a little while ago. Had sun showers too as you may notice in the photo. Speaking of the photo you might also notice the Dave Matthews Band coasters that arrived this week as part of the DMB Warehouse fan package along with the Warehouse 8 CD. Interesting choices and appropriately features LeRoi on many tracks. In other news... Flipper had his blood rechecked this week and confirmed that he's still diabetic, but doing fine back on his insulin. Also took Ella in for a grooming. She's long hair, but seems to like a "lion cut" - not to mention gets rid of any knots or tangles that I can't get out because they're too close to her skin. Got the front and back brakes done on the Altima yesterday. Jimmy Joe Pete gave me a lift to pick up my ...

Flipper Friday!

Image
Evening all, Senor Flipper turned 15 today! He celebrated by napping all day and I gave him some cat nip when I got home. He's now purring loudly next to the jukebox display as you can see in the photo. Having a little PA down south tonight with a Victory Brewing Co. - Hop Devil Ale ... devilishly good! Fired up the Woodside Live again this evening. Shuffling through what I call a "Classic Rock Infusion" Woodside playlist. It's a little bit of everything like the usual Woodside playlist, but more emphasis on the classic rock with a good bit of Rat Pack and new stuff thrown in for good measure. Need to get the grass cut tomorrow as it's getting a bit tall after all the rain we had this week - hopefully before any storms move in. Thanks to Lazy Acres for sending the JJ Grey via iTunes last night - good stuff! - Salud!

Happy Cinco De Mayo!

Image
Evening all, been awhile since I updated the blog. I've been working on the recap of my DMB concert trips, but taking longer than I thought. Will have them hopefully by this weekend. In other news... big storms tonight on the way home from work. Took me over an hour to get home through the traffic from the downpours and flooded streets. Did I mention I'm only 11 miles from work! Traffic was really backed up at one point where only one lane of traffic could make it through a flooded part of the road. Finally made it back to the Woodside where a Cinco De Mayo margarita awaited! Clouds broke up a bit so I could snap the photos of the rainbow and creek, but started pouring soon enough. Finally calm now, but still under a tornado watch tonight. - Salud!

U2, The Masters & DMB

Image
Had lots of bad storms last night so I stayed off the computer, but probably would have anyway since I watched a replay of the Masters' 2nd round. Watched the 3rd round today after a few shopping stops and got a 4.5 mile run in to boot! As a subscriber to U2.com, I received the "U2 Medium, Rare & Remastered" 2-CD set today. Great stuff, I like it more than their new CD. Sounds harsh, but of their last few studio CDs, I appreciate them much more after I see them live. I gave CD1 a quick listen in the car this afternoon and listened to both this evening while trying a new IPA from Green Flash Brewing Company , nice stuff! Also prepping for my trip next weekend to see DMB in Charlottesville and... has it been almost a year since I saw Ol' Lazy Acres? I guess it has. Watch for postings on Facebook & Twitter about the concert and weekend, and I'll post a longer recap here on the blog. Oh yeah, I think may be turning a year older next Friday, but who's count...

U2 Live: 24 Years and Counting

Image
Happy Weekend all! Started this post on Friday, but got a bit long and needed to finish this today. I got tickets this past week during the U2 ticket pre-sale for U2.com members. Got some pretty good seats for their show at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Va., in the fall -- see seating chart below . Pretty psyched about the tickets, but will be quite awhile until showtime. This will be my 7th time seeing U2 and looking back at the years... Wow, how the time and chapters in my life have passed. It didn't really hit me until I typed out the years that I saw them in concert -- 1985, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2001 and 2005. Hey, found the set lists online - the Web is amazing ... 1985 - Unforgettable Fire Tour Saw them at the Philadelphia Spectrum, former home of the Flyers and Sixers. What's missing in the set list below is the band broke into "Amazing Grace" at one point. My sister Linda, who was also in attendance, mentioned that was one of her favorite parts of the show. L...

A Pilsner Evening

Image
Hola all, hope everyone is having a good evening! Tonight my beer selection is Pilsner Urquell or "original pilsner" and is from my ancestral homeland, the Czech Republic. While not as bold as my typical favs the IPAs, this the father of all pilsners is always a tasty brew. This week I replaced my Motorola Q with a Blackberry Curve, and today I picked up a 2 GB media card to make lots of room for photos and video. For a test run, I decided to record the pour of my Pilsner Urquell. The video below has obviously been edited on the computer, but was shot on my Blackberry. For techies out there, I found it easiest to convert the video file from 3GPP to an MP4 file that I was able to open and edit in Sony Vegas software. I downloaded a free converter program from the Web to make the conversion. There are lots out there, just do a search for "3GPP video converter." Lots of rain this week and again this weekend -- so what else is new? Can't wait for the nice, warm sun...
