Jukebox Is Jumpin'

Good Saturday evening to one and all! Just cranked up the jukebox and I'd say off to good start when Billy Joel's "Easy Money" is the first tune out of the gate. An excellent track for a Saturday's eve.

Unfortunate circumstances for The Monkey last night, although he had discovered a tasty brown ale, I didn't realize XM had a "Crap" channel. :~)

Speaking of The Monkey, he may have the Old Brown Dog Ale, but this evening I'm enjoying a very tasty Terrapin Rye Pale Ale from Athens, Ga. Yes sir, a turtle playing the banjo right there on the label! Good stuff, I highly recommend it if you like hoppy pale ales.

Dined early today. Ran this morning then had lunch after, but so hungry this afternoon I fired up the grill a little before 5pm. Had BBQ pork chops and some veggies. I nice starter before getting to work on my Summer Mix.

Yes the gauntlet has been thrown down once again for the best Summer Mix, a contest between Ol' Lazy Acres, Senor Blanco and myself, an annual tradition since 2005. Although last year's mixes went unjudged, this year promises a return to the formula of three judges casting votes for their choice of Best Summer Mix.

The rules are simple: the mix must fit onto an 80 min. recordable CD and are submitted sans track listing or any markings so as not to influence the judges. Judges must listen to each mix and cast their vote based on the entire mix.

Guidelines for creating the mix are loose and open to interpretation by the participants. Basically, the mix track selection and sequence attempt to best capture the spirit of a summer's day or evening.

This year I just don't know, I had been thinking about putting together a kind of "Best Of My Summer Mixes" purely for my own listening. But after speaking with Ol' Lazy Acres the other night the competition is back on and hopefully Senor Blanco is in too.

Well, enough writing about it, time to get to work on my Summer Mix.

New Woodside Lounge

Opened up the new Woodside Lounge yesterday. For those of you who have visited in the past, this room is at the front of the house but many times went unnoticed by visitors as it was closed off and used as storage. The new Woodside Lounge has its own TV, even though it's around the corner from the theater room. It just goes without saying, all lounges must have a TV for sporting events. I believe it's in the building code. Music is served up from the stereo system currently residing in the dining room, but I'm thinking of moving it to the Lounge. Today I went streakin'! Remember, use that sunblock out there. - Salud!

Summer Mix 2025

This year's summer mix spans 56 years with 20 tracks from 1969 to 2025. The mix opens with the tranquil sounds of a gentle stream on a summer's day, and closes with a nighttime melody of crickets chirping and a crackling fire with thunder rumbling in the distance of an approaching summer storm. Summer Mix 2007

I probably should give this over the weekend to think about it, because there are three songs not included in this year's Summer Mix that I've been flip-flopping over. The mix just seems very tight and I can't fit the songs in without repeating the "essence," "groove" or beat of another song. I think the mixes for me work best when they flow and take you from one place to another musically without beating you over the head with the same style. Another thing I like to do with the Summer Mix is incorporate the old alongside the new. I hate to put two old songs back to back, or should I say two songs from the same era back to back. Now as you look at my mix you'll see some old songs next to other old songs. I guess it's not a hard and fast rule for me, but I try to at least jump a decade between two old songs.
