Ah Sweet Friday...

Image
Ah Sweet Friday, why do you always seem so so far away and yet here you are again... hoooo-doggie! Happy Friday to all y'all. Tonight's selection is a Tetley's English Ale. It has to be at least 15 years since I had one of these. Very smooth and you can never go wrong with the "widget" -- makes it taste as if it was poured from the tap. Looks to be great weather for the Quail Hollow Golf Championship in town this weekend. I attended a couple times in past years, but looking forward to kicking back and catching some of it on the tube. Speaking of kicking back, Michele borrowed my copy of Bret Easton Ellis' " The Rules of Attraction " last night, and she was able to spend a good deal of the afternoon engrossed in its pages. Ellis also penned "Less Than Zero" and I thought both books were superior to their movie adaptations. It's been awhile, but I recall reading "The Rules of Attraction" at least twice. I really liked how each ...

A Southern Girl, 44 Years and a Trip North

Image
Happy Friday to y'all! Tonight I'm keeping it simple and enjoying a Lagunitas IPA . Well, simple for me as its their year-round offering and not a seasonal release, an imperial or a double. Just a plain ol' good and hoppy IPA from Petaluma, Calif. I celebrated my 44th year last week with a trip up north to see family and friends. I didn't have anything special planned, but spending time with everyone was special enough. So I bet you're wondering who this "southern girl" is I mentioned in the headline. Her name is Michele and we've been seeing each other a few weeks now. Yes, it's still early, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention someone who's made me laugh and smile quite a bit lately. She's a native Carolinian and she's made this "northern yankee" feel very lucky to have met such a smart and lovely lady. We have plans to see each other tomorrow, and I dare say we're both looking forward to seeing each other and c...

Happy Good Friday!

Image
How y'all doin'? On Tap this evening is an Avery Maharaja - Imperial IPA . These are only around now through August so get 'em while they last! Hit well over 80 degrees here today and my car temp actually read 90! Looks like great weather through the weekend and into next week. I got some new running shoes this week and can't wait to try them out on the park trails this weekend. They posted the seat (actually row) assignments today in the DMB Warehouse. I did OK, first night in Philly really good, 2nd night... eh, OK, and then the seats in Charlotte I was like, really? I've been a member since 2002 and that's the best you can do? Granted they're not horrible, they're in the center, but I would have expected these seats a few years ago, but not now with 8 years of seniority. Ah, what are you gonna do? I'm ever hopeful to get the Warehouse upgrade that I got in 2005. The phone rang and it was a rep from the Warehouse. He said to disregard my current s...

Spring Stout

Image
Happy Friday! It's been awhile, eh? Looks like spring has finally sprung, had great weather today. I may even have to cut some grass this weekend. This evening's brew, a stout which hit the shelves this week, is the first offering in celebration of Sierra Nevada's 30th anniversary . Watch for additional brews in mid May, July and October. Oh by the way... it's very good! If you think you tasted a stout before, and even if you've tried Sierra Nevada's year-round stout, you haven't tasted a stout until you've tasted this special brew! - Salud!

New Washer

Image
Ordered the new machine online at Lowe's yesterday afternoon and it was delivered this morning even in the 3.5 inches of snow we got! Got a load going now. It's a little louder than the old machine, but as long as it washes clothes that's OK by me. Got snow!

Snow, Mojo and The Thirsty Beaver

Image
Happy Friday! Flakes are falling here this evening. They're calling for 1-3 inches overnight. Nothing compared to up north, but any amount of snowfall is big news in the south. Tonight's brew a Boulder Beer Company's Mojo IPA , a previously featured beer from last summer, but I thought something from Colorado would be fitting as the Winter Olympics kick off this evening. You may think I should have gone with a Canadian brew to go along with the current Olympic site, but nah I'm for the good ol' USA! Go Lindsey, Shaun and all the rest! Last Saturday, I participated in the Plaza Midwood Bar Crawl that took me to one spot called the Thirsty Beaver Saloon . The Beaver is a self-dubbed "honky tonk," which apparently means they serve beer in cans only. Tallboy PBRs were a popular choice - I had a Yuengling . Other significant features of this definitive dive bar included a TV with Hee Haw reruns and a big buck-toothed beaver painted on the side of the building....

Damp Friday

Happy Friday, albeit a wet one! No snow here just rain and lots of it. Tonight's brew a left-over from the 2009 series Sierra Nevada - Harvest Ale . Traditionally a fall brew, the Harvest Ale is still tasty on a cold and damp night. Last Friday's snow and ice lasted all weekend and was one of those times the trip to the store beforehand was actually a good call! I will say that when I made my trip to the grocery store last Thursday it was out of need and not due to "weather hysteria." Stay warm and dry, and Go Saints! - Salud!
