Letting Out My Inner Rock God

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to learn to play guitar, but never took the time to actually try. I figure there's no time like the present.

For you music junkies out there, the guitar I picked up is an Epiphone Les Paul Special II. Epiphone is kind of a poor man's Gibson. I picked it up this afternoon at the Guitar Center. They knocked $50 off the price because it was a floor model. I have been doing extensive research on this lately and Jimmy Joe Pete helped make my choice when we went to try it out Friday during lunch. It's a beginner guitar, but I am a beginner so there you go.

The color is actually a wine red, but I think the camera flash may have knocked some of the color out. And yep, that's a little 15W Marshall amp with digital effects & reverb -- distant cousin to the huge Marshall stacks the pros use. I got all the fixin's including a tuner, picks, stand, bag and strap.

I also have a DVD to help me learn and I just finished my first lesson. Right now, it's about letting out my inner G chord and overcoming my short fingers. I'm going to commit to at least an hour a day and see where it goes. Like I said, I have always wanted to learn to play guitar and the only thing that kept me from trying was myself.

Let's start a band... I'm sure the Irish Whistle and the electric guitar would rock together.
